2% raise or extra week vacation?
My work has offered me a choice between a 2% raise or an extra week of vacation. I’m stuck since it’s so similar.
Current situation: Earning 50,250/yr (EDIT: For clarification, for base salary I get $50250.00 per year) 5% for various benefits; 2 weeks sick time, paid; 3 weeks vacation (EDIT: I work about 38hr per week)
**Ok, another EDIT for more info. My work is great! It’s stable, I like who I work with, have a great boss, and I’m fairly confident I can trust the business to not revoke any increases. I have decent flexibility, never have to work weekends, and we were given a raise for inflation in July 2022 after the rate exploded. Technically year over year I’m at the correct wage inflation rate. I also am at the mid-high range for my position.
I live in a larger city and the cost of everything has gone way up. Groceries, rent, utilities etc… which I’m sure we are all feeling. A 2% raise would hardly even cover my rent increase. An extra week off sounds wonderful, but I didn’t take all 3 weeks this year. It’s also an option to have vacation time paid out at any time. Vacation time can also carryover to the next year. What would you do? How would you make your decision?
