Worth it drop uni and move to Alberta?
2nd year U of T student here thinking to move to Alberta to start work in oil industry. I heard from people that you are able to start working in Alberta after high school and make good earning around 65k-90k/year. Would it be a good idea to drop out and start working their, specially related to oil industry? (Currently doing Economics major-(BA))
Edit: 650+ comments and unable to answer all but im reading most of them. 80% telling to not drop, 20% telling to drop out. FAQs. 1) Yes i am taking osap (loans) for 70% and paying out of pocket for 30% of tuition. 2) No i am not able to just switch to anything science cause dont have prerequisites. 3) No, unable to attach econ to anything like commerce (accounting, management)or BBA cause not enough GPA. 4) No, not able to just go in summer since i also have to take summer courses to stay in uni. 5) Currently I do food delivery (uber eats, skip, Doordash) on side but not making great $. 6) Im not half way done. Only done year 1/4. Started 2 recently. So only 30% done for uni.
Edit 2: 1) the main reason i was considering this idea was BA with Econ major doesn’t have much value in job market.
I only took Econ major after getting rejected from Commerce( accounting, marketing, HR, Management). 2) I believe i am good with money. Im going through extreme times right now (No job and lots on monthly expenses not supported by Govt. loans) but still not putting myself into a $1 debt. I pay my C. Cards in full. I paid my car in full. Read to max my tfsa as soon as i get income.
Saw many great opinions and appreciate everyone answering. Thank you
