80K/year in Toronto vs 85K/year in Montreal
Hello,
I’m 26, currently live in Toronto on a 71K/year salary and work in marketing. I received the 2 following offers.
Offer #1: 80K/year in Toronto, Defined Benefit plan, comprehensive health and dental benefits, for Toronto based company with ~180 employees
Offer #2: 85K/year in Montreal, matching RRSP, comprehensive health and dental benefits, big global company present in 150 countries (opportunities to work abroad etc.)
The 2 companies offer fairly similar benefits besides the DB vs RRSP plan, however the one in Montreal includes a few additional health and wellness benefits. I’m non native but speak fluent French, so living in Quebec wouldn’t really be an issue.
I currently manage to save about 20% of my income every month, but I heard income tax is much higher in Quebec. So I’m wondering if it’s really worth it to move and uproot my life for 5K more per year. What salary difference, if any, should justify a move, do you think?
