Observation on neighborhood wealth
When i'm (mid 40's Male) walking the dog around the neighborhood (smaller town SW Ontario) I always like to look at others peoples homes and properties just to admire the beauty or get some ideas for my own. Recently I've been thinking about finances and where I am at and although I'm not usually one to compare myself to others or couldn't care less about keeping up with Jones's as most material things don't bring me joy. I can't help but wonder if almost everyone around me is doing that much better than me or is everyone up to their eyeballs in debt? It seems like most homes have at least 2 newer SUV's or pick up trucks, quite a few have toys like a big RV, motorcycle, boat etc. and these are all typically parked in front of a home that is much nicer than mine with a pool, beautiful landscaped yard and nice concrete driveway and patio.
Before I get downvoted for just being jealous, Let me state, I don't care what anyone else does with their own money and I'm not one to try and keep up with trends. But I'm honestly curious if this a case of most people just being better off than I am (which is totally fine with me) or do you think it's that most people are in a lot of debt just to have these nice things? or a combo of both?
