Frustrated with Equifax/Collections
Two months ago I saw there was a collections account on my credit report, not mine and I immediately tried to contact collections agency, got nowhere. They kept saying they'll look into it. After a week I started leaving voice mails, never got a call back or any resolution.
I called Equifax to file a dispute. I got the form, filled it out and after a week called only to be told it expired and to do it again. Second try ended with the same result and third finally got accepted and they said they'll investigate.
I called after 2 weeks and was told that the collection agency didn't respond to Equifax request so they can't remove the entry.
Equifax rep also asked me to submit a proof that this collection isn't mine – how can I prove that it isn't mine when it's not mine, I have never had collections or had any dealing with the original Creditor (a car dealership in Calgary, I've always lived in ON).
It's extremely frustrating that nobody wants to do anything. So it's enough for collection agency to ignore Equifax and that means this error can't be fixed?
I asked Equifax what kind of proof I could have that this isn't my account and they said perhaps a statement of Account that I paid it off – well it's not my account, I never dealt with that dealership.
I did call dealership too but they were pretty rude, only said if a collection account has been sold they're done with it. I called again and spoke with someone else, asked to check if they have my name as a former customer anywhere (didn't say why at first) and was told no. Then when I explained everything and asked for then to send me a letter saying that they hung up.
