The rental market in GTA is a nightmare!
Got served a 60 day notice to move out of my 2 bed 1.5 bath townhouse in downtown Toronto and I’ve been on the hunt to find a place to move to. Me and the wife earn a decent amount (200k ish combined income per year) and damn it’s a mission to find a place. Granted we’re upgrading where we’re trying to find a 3 or 4 bed with a finished basement and a yard and it’s like me trying to get a Moonswatch. We made an offer on a house in Markham (400 over asking) and lost out due to another offer with 50 bucks more. WTF? Also they called our employers, checked out our social, called our previous landlords, asked for bank statements…the works. This is nuts! It was like a friggin job interview.
My question is…how difficult is it to get a house in GTA? Do you really go through stringent checks and how many offers roughly does it take before one gets accepted? (New to Canada so it’s a bit of a surprise to us). TIA.
