Anyone here abandon plans to buy property, to begin investing for retirement instead?
30(m) here, I gross 70k/yr and have managed to save up 100k which sits in a savings account. For the last 3 years I have been saving aggressively with the intent of buying my own place, however now it feels like even if I did buy something I wouldn't have enough left over after ownership fees to save for retirement. It seems like I'm at a crossroads where I basically have to choose between the two now, owning or investing, and I can't decide which is more important. Home prices will increase if I don't buy now, but I'm feeling incredibly stressed about the fact I haven't yet began investing and am tempted to max a tfsa with VRGO ETFs.
Anyone else in the same boat? I don't want to be 45 and posting on here one day is it too late to start investing, it's hard to decide what should take presidence at this point in my life, or would you split the money in half for both?
Edit: I thought I should mention I have a very stable and well-priced rental situation that won't change in the near future (I rent from family) so housing uncertainty isn't a factor in my decision atleast for now.
