Homeless soon with 72k Salary
I have to move because my landlord filed to make significant repairs. I’ve been looking for months and I’ve been denied time and time again.
My credit isn’t the best but I’m in the process of fixing it with a strict budget. I have savings so I can cover first and last but not enough to live in a hotel or Airbnb for long.
Im a single parent to 2 kids (he had cancer) and I finally landed a full time career job (been there a year but previously in a full time position at the same place for 2 years just at a lower salary).
Every place turns me down either because of kids or credit (never missed rent, it’s old loans from when i became a single parent) or income (they say they rent is more than 30% of my income). Most 2 bedrooms I see (even social housing market rent is 2800-3000+). Ideally we need a 3 bdrm (boy + girl) but those are out of my budget. Seems like it’s more common for people to rent rooms than apartments.
Airbnb/hotel would run me $4000/month or more.
I don’t want to go to a shelter at my income because it doesn’t feel right but I feel like my options are exhausted. I don’t have friends or family who can be a guarantor/co-sign.
What does one do in this situation?
