I’ve been working for a startup for a year. They issued me shares which would vest at the end of this month.

After working weekends and late nights to give them the software they asked me to build for them they let me know today they haven’t raised their fundraising goals and I have been let go.

I have been offered 3 weeks of pay which will cover my rent for about 2 months.

My wife and I bought a townhome in Calgary where the company is based which is under construction. Without a stable non-probationary job we can’t get a mortgage. I’ve put my 5% down on the place but that might not be given back by the builder. They knew I was building a place to move to be onsite as we ramp up to launch. We currently rent in Victoria and I’ve been working remotely.

I was told that there was no chance of me being let go a week ago and now I’m jobless.

Should I be asking for more / can I ask for more? I’m not sure what to do besides looking for a new job.
