Financial help after suicide attempt
Hi Everyone. This is a throw away account to try and get help with this anonymously.
My husband attempted suicide a week ago. He has spent the past week in the ICU. It's going to take time for him to recover physically and mentally. We weren't doing great financially but we were scrapping by somehow. He was on EI which is due to run out in January. Obviously he isn't ready and willing to work anymore so I'm not sure how to fill out his reports. And if we don't have that income, we will be homeless. I have spent the entire week at the hospital with him and used all my vacation/sick time. I need to speak with my doctor about stress leave but once again that means going through EI or getting short term disability though my insurance which means a 30%-45% cut in my pay, which also will leave us homeless. We are also expecting our first child in March which means I will have to take maternity leave at that time. Everything is a mess and I feel like I'm drowning just trying to find a way to make sure he's safe and is able to return to a home. Are there other programs out there for people in this situation? There is so much discussion about prevention and information about mental health after an attempt but nothing about the financial distress. Any help would be appreciated.
